Hermes Lyre
A 7 string, pentatonic lyre for pre-birth through early childhood, the Hermes Lyre utilizes one hand, has an open, ethereal tone, and is created from American Cherry. Ideal for expectant mothers, infants, and young children. A Joy both to play and to hear. Includes tuning wrench and "Our Own Little Instruction Pack".

This is a 12 stringed diatonic lyre, also ideal for childhood as well as for use as a student lyre. This Apollo Lyre is also played with both hands, and is carved from American Cherry as well. The tone is rich and full bodied. Includes a tuning wrench and "Our Own Little Instruction Pack".

Musician's Notes . . .
Pentatonic tuning specifically utilizing D,E,G,A, & B is the most accepted therapeutic and educational standard for environments of pre-birth through age 7. Westerners are more familiar with this scale as sounding Asian in quality.
Diatonic tuning specifically Middle C up to G 2 octaves above Middle C, is the generally accepted standard for environments of ages approximately 7 to 12, or onset of adult teeth. This scale has no sharps or flats and is in the key of C, like playing only the white keys of a piano. This scale most suitably reflects the singing voices of the majority of children in this age group.
Chromatic tuning reflects all of the notes of the Western scale within their range. This includes the sharps and flats--like playing both the white and black keys on a piano. From a therapeutic or pedagogical viewpoint this is considered most appropriate for ages 12 and over.

Our Lyre cases are hand-made of American woods, felt lined to cushion you instrument safely when storing and transporting. These are the first choice for protecting your instrument and are appropriate for both Hermes and Apollo Lyres. They also contain plenty of space to carry sheet music and your tuning wrench as well.
