On A Summer Breeze

by Patrick Thilmany, December 2003, All Rights Reserved

I first titled this piece Night Gliding, then Butterfly On A Summer Breeze and finally settled with On A Summer Breeze. The distinct impression for me was the gliding quality with abrupt but smooth changes in direction without resolution. Perhaps this is a musical metaphor for Flights of Fancy. My imagery for this piece is that of floating on a gentle summer breeze, then catching onto another current and floating along, repeating this feeling many times. I would like to hear what the imagery is that you see when listening to this piece, let me know.

This piece evolved from playing with the tensions that are created by the chords while freeing the melody into the realms of drifting, yet returning to the base of chordal tension.

Thanks for listening,
Patrick
